Celebrate the Holidays in Union
Square! |

There’s no better place to kick off your holiday
season than Union Square! Whether you're shopping at the
Holiday Market or in the hundreds of stores located
throughout the district, or you're taking a break to eat
in any one of our fine restaurants, Union Square has
something for everyone. During the holiday season, USP
and the League of Off-Broadway Theatres and Producers
are bringing shoppers four fantastic performances by the
casts of some of Off-Broadway's hottest shows, every
Friday at 4:00 PM at 15th Street and Union Square West.
While in the area, visit USP's Information
Booth located at the center of the Holiday
Market in front of the Washington statue for discount
coupons to Off-Broadway Shows, neighborhood restaurants
and shops, and more! The Holiday Market, operated by
Urban Space Management, is open Monday – Friday from
11:00 AM to 8:00 PM, Saturdays 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM,
Sundays 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM, and Christmas Eve 10:00 AM
to 4:00 PM. |

smart. The NYC Department of Consumer Affairs's Holiday Shopping

your holiday shopping run as smoothly as possible,

Space Management |

Now in its 12th year,
the Union Square Holiday Market, which is operated by
Urban Space Management, has had a major impact on the
neighborhood, providing the perfect complement to Union
Square's shops and restaurants and making the district
New York's nexus of holiday cheer. USP caught up with
Eldon Scott and Liz Rees from the Urban Space Management
Team to find out about some of their favorite spots in
Union Square.
Favorite
place for an afternoon
snack.
Eldon: I like to take my
daughter to Max Brenner
after school for a hot chocolate
pick-me-up.
Liz: I love Tasti
D-Lite on 14th Street and the peanut butter
and banana sandwiches on brioche at Newsbar.
Best place
to buy ties and
shoes.
Eldon: I always find
great ties at Rothman’s.
Liz: I just found a great pair of foul-weather
booties at Paragon.
Kid-friendly
shopping.
Both of us agree that the Holiday
Market at Union Square is a great place for shopping for
the whole family.
A hidden
gem in the
neighborhood.
Eldon: The Old Town
Bar is great when meeting old friends for a
drink. Liz: Hands down, it’s the Big
Enchilada.
Favorite
Holiday Purchase.
Eldon: I buy the kids
t-shirts from Bugs Deluxe in the Holiday Market.
Liz: I like to indulge in bath blasters from
Ben & Oliver.
Place for
artistic inspiration.
Eldon:
I love the incredible decorative masonry, gargoyles and
carvings on the 19th Century buildings facing Union
Square. Liz: I like to get
artistic in the kitchen so I always finds inspiration in
the Greenmarket.
A relaxing
getaway.
Eldon: I often visit the
tin boats at the Forbes
Galleries so I can travel back to New York
Harbor in the 19th Century. Liz: I like to
sneak off and relax at an afternoon movie at the Regal
Cinemas. |

Warm Coats, Warm Hearts
|
|
USP
encourages everyone to help make this holiday season a
little warmer for everyone! Please lend a hand by
donating gently used coats to the 19th Annual New York
Cares Coat Drive. Rothman's owner
and USP and New York Cares Board Member Ken Giddon
states, “This is an easy way to help the less fortunate
living among us. A warm coat can make a huge difference
to someone this winter." Ken adds, "We are always
especially short of children’s and men’s outerwear.”
Students involved with the USP Education Program have
organized a drop-off center at Washington Irving High
School, located on 17th Street and Irving Place, so stop
by weekdays from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM to make your
donation.

| LaRue's Maneuvers
Debuts |
|
USP congratulates our BID President Jim Gabbe on the
publication of his novel LaRue's
Maneuvers
(BookSurge, 2007). Set in the 1960s, LaRue's
Maneuvers tells the story of amnesiac veteran Jesse
Danbar, who, under the pen name 'LaRue,' writes a series
of poems in an effort to reclaim his past. A partner in
public relations firm gabbegroup, Jim (pictured above
with wife Jill) served as a U.S. Army Officer during the
Vietnam War. He will be donating the proceeds from the
sale of LaRue's Maneuvers to veterans'
causes. |
