Many Thanks for a
Wonderful Holiday Season |
|
Thousands
of shoppers came to find the perfect holiday gift this
season and were delighted by musical selections
performed from the casts of some of Off-Broadway's
hottest shows. In addition, over 4,000 people visited
the Union Square Partnership booth for coupons to area
businesses, Off-Broadway theatre discounts, free holiday
totes, and information about the neighborhood. USP
extends a special thanks to Urban Space Management, the
League of Off-Broadway Theatres and Producers, Greenwich
Village-Chelsea Chamber of Commerce and the NYC
Department of Parks and Recreation. See you next
year! |

Crossroads of New York Walking Tour
|
|
USP has teamed
with Big Onion Walking Tours to create a free 90-minute
walking tour called Union Square:
Crossroads of New York. The tour explores
the neighborhood's vibrant history through discussions
of the people, history, architecture, and forces that
have shaped our community. You'll hear how Union Square
got its name, see where the legendary Tiffany & Co.
once stood, and learn how to read "The Metronome" clock
(yes, it's a clock!) and much, much more. The tour meets
inside the park every Saturday at 2:00 PM by the Lincoln
Statue on the 16th Street transverse. Look for the tour
guide holding a USP sign and enjoy!

| Neighborhood Favorites with Bank of
America's David DeSanctis |
|
Bank
of America recently opened their
new Union Square Banking Center at 36 East 14th Street
and University Place. USP caught up with Bank Manager David
DeSanctis to ask him about his favorite
places in the Union Square area.
Favorite place for an
afternoon snack. Rainbow
Falafel on 17th Street has great prices,
a friendly staff and tasty treats for anytime of
the day.
How you get to work in the
morning. Being in Union Square has been the highlight of
my career so far! You can get there from anywhere. I
start my commute in Connecticut and easily make it to
this major New York City transportation hub.
A place to unwind.
Union Square
Cafe is a world-class restaurant with
imaginative food, great hospitality and comfortable
surroundings.
A "must-see"
for an out of town guest. Fuerzabruta
at the Daryl Roth
Theatre is a performance that rocks the
house!

Bring HOPE to Fellow New
Yorkers |
|
The NYC
Department of Homeless Services is seeking volunteers to
help conduct its sixth annual Homeless Outreach Population Estimate (HOPE 2008)
on January 28th. Teams of volunteers will canvass
streets, parks, and subways to count the number of
people living unsheltered in NYC. Volunteers
will meet at training sites throughout the city at 10:30
PM, receive a brief orientation, and then disperse
to their assigned areas from 12:00 AM to 4:00
AM. HOPE 2008 is part of Mayor Bloomberg’s five-year
action plan to end chronic homelessness and develop
appropriate housing resources for the most vulnerable
New Yorkers currently living without shelter. Click here to

in 2008
MulchFest. On January 5th

Christmas trees to designated locations around the City
so that they can be ground into wood chips for use in
tree pits and gardens. If you also bring a bag along,
