Neighborhood Favorites with
W's Ed
Maynard |
|
Ed
Maynard, General Manager of the W Hotel - Union Square,
joined the Partnership to volunteer with
his two sons (pictured above) for It's My Park!
Day. USP caught up with Ed to ask him about his
favorite places in the Union Square area.
Favorite place for an afternoon
snack. Obviously the flatbread and
PB&J pancakes at Olives is a favorite. I also
enjoy the sushi at Whole Foods and a mocha frappuccino at
Starbucks.
Best place
to buy ties. Is there any
other place than Rothman’s? Their selection and
quality of merchandise is as good as, if not better than
any shop along 5th Avenue, and their
sales people are genuinely concerned about customer
satisfaction.
Kid-friendly
shopping. My boys love the Barnes &
Noble children’s section and story
time.
A hidden gem in the
neighborhood. The High
Tea at Lady Mendl’s is a real treat. I
would be remiss if I didn’t mention Underbar on 17th Street,
under the W New York - Union Square!
Favorite Greenmarket
purchase. I love the Greenmarket. I was born and raised in
the Adirondacks and the products sold remind me of
home. My favorite purchase is from the pretzel
vendor - actually it’s my 4 and 5 year olds favorite and
therefore, mine.

Small Business
Spotlight
Blind Pig
Bar |
|
The Blind Pig Bar is one of
NYC's newest watering holes that hearkens back to the
days of prohibition. A “Blind Pig,” a roaring
1920's slang for a speakeasy, is all you'd hope for from
a bar of that classic era (233 East 14th
Street between 2nd & 3rd Avenues, 212
209-1573). |
| Thai Me Up |
|
Thai Me Up brings its own spin on spicy,
Thai-Vietnamese fusion to the neighborhood. Sample
delicious sandwiches and noodle bowls close to
home and work (238
East 14th Street between 2nd & 3rd
Avenues, 212
533-8424). |
| Union Square
Partnership |
|
The Union Square Partnership is a community-based,
nonprofit organization working to foster the best
possible metropolitan neighborhood for its residents,
businesses, property owners and employers. We are
comprised of a local development corporation and New
York City's first business improvement district, two
organizations that have served as catalysts behind the
area's transformation. For more information, visit our
