of Consumer Affairs Commissioner Jonathan Mintz
(pictured above left) asks businesses to encourage
employees to call 311 to find out if they
qualify. |

| Neighborhood Favorites With
Greenmarket Manager Davy Hughes |
|
For over 30 years, the Union Square Greenmarket, the
City's oldest and largest Greenmarket, has set the
standard for supporting New York's farming community,
and providing produce and other New York grown fare to
the local community. When construction on the North End
begins later this month, the layout of the market will
shift to the west and south, and it will remain in
operation Mon-Wed-Fri-Sat from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM. USP
caught up with Greenmarket Manager Davy Hughes to ask
him about his favorite places in Union Square (pictured
above at the Hawthorne Valley Farm stand).
Best place to buy shoes. I'm a
runner so I always visit Paragon
Sports for shoes. They also have great rugged
outdoor boots, which are perfect for working outdoors in
the winter.
Favorite Greenmarket purchase. The
Hawthorne Valley Farm
Kim Chee is delicious and organic. Swing by their
table on Wednesdays & Saturdays and try all of
the delectable products.
Place for artistic inspiration. I
love to walk around Union Square Park's south
plaza on a busy Saturday. You always come
across something totally unpredictable and
inspiring.
An architectural landmark. The Lincoln Statue is a great
place to sit early in the morning when the farmers are
rolling in and the sun is coming up.
A must see for an out of town guest.
The Greenmarket
is the perfect place to find healthy, fresh and local
fare and great
people-watching. |
