North End Project Moves Forward

On May 7th, the Court lifted restrictions temporarily imposed on the City to allow the Parks Department to proceed with its plan to renovate Union Square Park. Justice Jane Solomon determined that “the community would suffer tremendous harm if the Parks Department is prevented from implementing the badly needed improvements to the comfort stations, playground and Greenmarket, in addition to rehabilitating the dilapidated Pavilion.” Supporters of the project hailed the decision, read more.

Greenmarket Stays Fresh Every Season

Visit New York City's first, largest and most famous Greenmarket year-round every Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday from 8:00 AM - 6:00 PM in Union Square Park. Though the layout may shift, the market will remain in operation during reconstruction of the North End.

On Saturday, May 17th from 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM, bring your friends, family and colleagues for a fun day of community volunteering at It’s My Park! Day in Union Square Park. Join USP at the George Washington statue before launching into groups to mulch, plant spring annuals, paint outdoor furniture, and participate in other beautification activities. Dog Fountain Unveiled in Union Square

On April 10th, as part of ASPCA Day, the NYC Dept. Parks & Recreation, USP and the ASPCA unveiled a new drinking fountain at the dog run in Union Square Park. The fountain can be used by both dogs and their owners and will enhance the overall experience for dog run users. Click here for more information.

GreeNYC: Its Hip to Be Green!

On June 25th, Mayor Bloomberg announced GreeNYC, a new campaign to educate New Yorkers on simple steps they can take to reduce pollution and greenhouse gases, and create a greener, greater New York. GreeNYC is part of PlaNYC, the City's far-reaching plan to fight global warming and prepare for an estimated one million more residents by 2030.
