Soapbox Walks: African American History

  • Union Square Neighborhood (map)

Union Square's soapboxes drew socialists, suffragists, and anarchists who energized crowds with ideas about America. This series pairs a wonderful roster of scholars to co-lead tours with AJHS ED Annie Polland.

This installment of Soapbox Walks features Professor Leslie Harris and illuminates how African American history and US history intersected on Union Square, from Civil War demonstrations, Frederick Douglass’s 1878 Memorial Day Speech, and early 20th century socialism.

Tickets are $20 general admission, or $15 for CJH Members, Seniors, or Students. Get tickets here: https://soapboxwalks.bpt.me/
