New York Blood Center will partner with Union Square Partnership, and, NYPD Transit District 4 Union Square for the Union Square Community Blood Drive on Wednesday, December 28th from 12:00pm to 6:00pm. NYBC announced the 5th blood shortage emergency of 2022 last month due to an alarming drop in blood donations. The region’s blood supply currently stands at a 1 to 3 day level, which is well below the ideal level of 5-7 days. Hospitals and patients rely upon a steady flow of volunteer donors to receive life-saving donations, but, hybrid office schedules & remote work coupled with a two-year period of almost no youth donations during the pandemic have made blood donation less of a priority. NYBC encourages all who are able to sign up and donate today. One blood donation has the ability to save up to three lives!
