Catch the Best of Summer in the Square
Where can you catch a live DJ set, the Blue Man Group, an outdoor showing of Clueless, endless activities for kids, live jazz, and meditation exercises all in one day? Right here in Union Square Park! Summer in the Square is our eight-week series of free programming for all ages in Union Square that runs every Thursday until August 3rd.
This past Thursday, Union Square welcomed an exciting number of new programming throughout the day. Did you miss the action last Thursday? Check out our recap and learn more about all the exciting programs we had. We only have two Summer in the Square days left this summer, so come out and join in the free fun!

Their faces and outfits are recognizable anywhere, and their performances are even more memorable. Never got a chance to see the Blue Man Group on stage? Look no further than Union Square Park where the Blue Man Group came to pay us a visit and join in on the Summer in the Square fun. It’s not every day that you see this entertaining and legendary group of blue men in our favorite neighborhood park. The Blue Man Group made sure to play a round of pickleball and grab a pint at Torch and Crown — the perfect summer day in Union Square. Check out the pictures from this special “disruption”!
Clueless
You missed Summer in the Square? Ugh, as if! We played one of the 90s’ most beloved movies, Clueless on the Center Lawn this weekend and loved seeing the turnout. We’ve shown Moana and Clueless so far this summer, and we have Labyrinth and Clue for our last Summer in the Square weeks. Grab some friends, blankets, your most “Cher” inspired outfits, and some snacks and come out to the Center Lawn at 8:00pm. What else says summer like a great outdoor throwback movie with your friends?
sweet chick’s dj set + free lemonade
Sweet Chick is known for serving up the best chicken and waffles throughout New York City, but they’re playing some of the best songs at their DJ set in the South Plaza from 5-7pm, as well as giving out some delicious (free!) lemonade to all visitors. Sweet Chick will also have fun challenges and games for everyone. Come dance and cool off with refreshing lemonade!
KIDS PAVILION
Our kids pavilion is one of the best staples of Summer in the Square! We have tons of kids activities going on in the South Lawn and Plaza between 10am-2pm and love meeting all the familiar and new faces that come by. The bubble wands are a huge hit (and not just for kids!) and are the perfect summer activity, partnered with Gazillion Bubbles Show. We have kids yoga, organized by Karma Kids Yoga, where your kids can hear a story and learn animal-like yoga poses. For any aspiring artists, we offer Union Square-themed coloring sheets, so anyone can color in and design the Union Square of their dreams. We also have other art and science programs offered by City OWLets, as well as an interactive science demonstration that changes themes weekly. If your kids are looking to burn some energy, Zing Kids will be here to provide fun fitness and exercise challenges that will keep them on the move.

Hosted by City Pickle and sponsored by Visit Seattle, you can enjoy four free pickleball courts in the North Plaza every Thursday of Summer in the Square from 9am to 7pm. All pickleball equipment (courts, paddles, and balls) will be provided, so just swing by with your team - or if you’re up to it, play against some new faces at Union Square. Registration for pickleball opens the week before, so be sure to sign up fast! Come learn and try your hand at America’s fastest growing sport.
MEDITATION + WELLNESS
Look no further than the South Plaza and Lawn every morning from 8am-10am for sound baths and meditation classes led by Exequor Wellness. In the midst of how hectic New York City and your morning routine can be, find some time to dedicate to wellness. We also featured our first pilates class here this week!
