Union Square Partnership (USP), the community-based nonprofit organization for the Union Square-14th Street district, announced today the appointment of John Cinosky, Partner at ABS Partners, to Co-Chair of Union Square Partnership’s Board of Directors. Cinosky’s duties, which will officially begin on November 20, 2024, include guiding the organization’s work to support district businesses and enhance the quality of life in Union Square for residents, employees and visitors. After 20 years of service to Union Square Partnership and the Union Square-14th Street community, William Abramson will be stepping down from his position as Co-Chair, as of November 20, 2024.

Cinosky will serve as Co-Chair of Union Square Partnership’s Board of Directors alongside Jen Hensley, who assumed her role as President and Co-Chair in September 2023. Together with Executive Director Julie Stein and Deputy Director and Chief Strategy Officer Ed Janoff, Cinosky and Hensley will work to advance the USQNext Vision Plan through public-private partnerships and civic engagement. Cinosky’s decades of experience in New York real estate positions him to skillfully and strategically advise Union Square Partnership on the advancement of the organization’s goals to foster and maintain the economic growth and beautification of the neighborhood.

At ABS Partners, Cinosky specializes in leasing for building agencies and tenant representation, often working with companies, business owners and residents of Union Square and its surrounding areas. As a New York City-based investment-led real estate firm, ABS has a long history and strong presence in Union Square, including portfolio highlights such as 200 Park Avenue South and 19 Union Square West. Cinosky’s career in real estate brings a wealth of knowledge and insight to the executive leadership team of Union Square Partnership. Prior to ABS Partners, Cinosky served as President at Atco Brokerage Services, where he rose from salesperson to tenant representative to landlord agent. Cinosky’s industry knowledge and district expertise are invaluable assets for his work with Union Square Partnership, serving and collaborating with local office and retail tenants and property owners.

“I’m honored to step into this role with Union Square Partnership and its Board of dedicated community members to serve and advocate for Union Square,” said John Cinosky, Partner at ABS Partners and Co-Chair, Union Square Partnership Board of Directors. “I look forward to working alongside my Co-Chair, Executive Director and the USP staff members to champion l the Union Square-14th Street district as a thriving, welcoming place for all people to live, work and visit. The future of Union Square is paramount to the future of New York City, and by connecting with residents and businesses, we will work tirelessly to implement our vision of a more beautiful, accessible public realm and strong economic future for this district.”

“In his role as a board member and business leader in Union Square, John has been a consistently strategic, thoughtful and influential presence. I am thrilled for him to elevate his role with Union Square Partnership as Co-Chair, and further apply his business acumen and forward-thinking mentality to our work on behalf of the district. His insights as a leader at ABS Partners are an incredible asset for our Board as we continue to cultivate a dynamic, mixed-use environment in Union Square for businesses to flourish,” said Julie Stein, Executive Director, Union Square Partnership. “I’d also like to thank Bill Abramson for his mentorship, guidance and service to our Board and staff over many years. Bill has been a trusted, steady leader and friend to us all. On behalf of the entire board and staff, we commend his successful tenure and look forward to his next chapter.”

“I'm thrilled for John’s appointment to co-chair the Union Square Partnership’s Board, and I look forward to working with him on our collective vision for our neighborhood,” said Jen Hensley, Co-Chair and President, Union Square Partnership Board of Directors. “His experience building relationships with public and private stakeholders positions him well to step into this new role and advocate for Union Square’s future as a world-class destination for New Yorkers and visitors. I also want to thank Bill for his decade of leadership on our Board. His vision and stewardship will have lasting benefits to our organization and our community.”

“Serving on the Union Square Partnership Board of Directors for nearly two decades has been an honor,” said William Abramson, former Co-Chair, Union Square Partnership Board of Directors. “This organization has accomplished so much in that time, and it has been an incredible journey in perseverance, advocacy and community-building. I’m pleased to extend my congratulations to John, as a friend and colleague, on his appointment. The future of Union Square is bright, and I look forward to seeing the incredible work Union Square Partnership will do for current and future generations of New Yorkers.”

During his tenure as Co-Chair of Union Square Partnership, Abramson was instrumental to the creation and early implementation of the USQNext Vision Plan, Union Square Partnership’s bold vision to upgrade Union Square’s public realm by modernizing Union Square Park, transforming 14th Street into a world-class boulevard, and updating infrastructure to improve the public realm for decades to come. Abramson served as Co-Chair of the Board for 10 years and will remain on the Board’s Executive Committee.
