Manhattan Community Boards are looking for energetic and engaged teens to join local Community Boards.

Community Board meetings provide a public forum to discuss resolutions voted on by committee members dealing with all matters relating to their community’s welfare.

The Land Use, Housing & Zoning Committee reviews applications for special permits and variances from the Zoning Resolution and changes to the Zoning Resolution.

Reviews proposals that would grant landmark status to buildings and also reviews any alterations to landmarked buildings or buildings in historic districts.

Reviews proposals for the use, restoration and maintenance of the district's parks, including Union Square Park. Reviews applications for special uses of the parks.

The Public Safety & Quality of Life Committee reviews liquor license and cabaret applications for establishments located in the district. Reviews problems relating to the quality of life in the district.

Reviews local items relevant to the citywide budget. Oversees issues pertaining to schools and all other city services within the district. Annually drafts and adopts a District Statement of Needs.

The Transportation & Environment Committee reviews applications relating to streets and sidewalks including bus shelters, taxi stands, parking changes, bus route changes and other items relating to transportation. Reviews and monitors environmental policies.
